I was chuffed to have this come through the post the other day, from my fishing friend Dominic Garnett. Strangely enough, I probably owe our friendship to an 11lb 4oz carp I caught from Tiverton AC's Lakeside fishery back in 2006; a species and water I rarely target these days. Dominic was fishing the same day, and grabbed a photograph of it for a Southern Angler article he was working on.
Since then, I've enjoyed trips to places like Marsh Farm, caught my first zander, and learned to fly-fish, all as a direct result of our friendship. But so far the best experience has been visiting numerous different canals in order to unearth some of the more fascinating fishing available to anglers in the British Isles.
A lot of it is here, in Dom's third book Canal Fishing - A Practical Guide, plus so much more. If you buy this book, I'm sure you won't be disappointed, as it not only covers techniques, but offers a great taste of canal fishing throughout the UK. These venues are far from all alike. Everything from deep ship canals, to canals where you can find crucian carp, are covered.
