Had a quick dash for a perch on the Grand Western Canal today. They might not grow huge here, but you'd be hard-pressed to find better looking perch anywhere, and I fancied spinning for them. With the canal heavily weeded, the only realistic chance of working a spinner over any distance is around bridges where weed growth is limited by virtue of photosynthesis being inhibited. Bridges just happen to be great holding areas for perch too.
Two casts in, I had my target species. After twenty minutes I had two more, and was happy to jump back in the car and carry on home, except for one last cast, which resulted in a rudd of all things.
